Mattis…

Thank you for adding my personal wiki to your list of those that are active here at the oddmuse WikiHive. – HansWobbe

the css working in IE6

Mattis, no worries about the lost page, it wasn’t very much. My site seems to attract a lot of spam through the forum link, I’m hoping to resolve that soon. Anyway, about this… “The “Edit this page” popup bar doesn’t work om IE6. It does on the centralized css sheep wrote and we use now. Consider it, please.” Where is this css that works? Do you mean the one here?

Jonty

MattisManzel:
I mean the css here, yes. Hadn’t seen your edit yesterday, sry. Let us fix one of your wikis with the new css together if you want.

2007-03-17 Talk

Hey Mattis, thanks for deleting all the spam some of pages is getting but do you think you could revert it rather than delete it, because I have been away for a while I have lost all the original info.

Thanks, Jonty.

MattisManzel:
Hi Jonty. Nice you’re constantly present with your wikis though. I d’szpamed some pages, yes. I usually once delete and afterwards revert to that deleted page version. I use the “revert changes” button, it’s just so nice to do it with one single click. And such reverts should be major edits, I think. People should see that there is cleaning work to do here and now, they will rather participate doing it then. A good hive is when people care and despam other people’s wikis.

ok, I see. Too many reverts made the original unrecoverable because of the incomplete history. Sorry man, didn’t think about it (I lost a couple of pages like that already). Did you look at the internet archive. Maybe it’s left there. cu /mm

Test edit from IEs 4 for linux - the tools / edit this page bar is missing and edit today’s talk takes me into the edit mode which looks messed up. I fear the css needs a little brush over. Sorry to all Internet Explorer users.

You could have avoided that installing Firefox. :)

MattisManzel:
Alex, good morning new-years. I miss some early, not very elaborated wikistubs, they seem to be gone, likely not edited for half a year. Such happens, no problem. Just wanted to ask if they’re really gone. RopeWiki? BordersWorkerUnited? DevX? … etc.

Do I have to major edit to make a wiki stay or is a minor edit sufficient?

2006-12-01 Talk

MattisManzel:
I’m not against a css for the main-level of oddwiki. Xtof put one that messes up the sidebar. Someone can fix it?

I’m also fine with reverting as alex doesn’t like a css on the main-level. It’s clearer style without, true. Opinions?

Madness!
That I didn’t think about that before, I mean.
The who-writes-here-feed. Turning WhoWritesHere? into a day-page set gives us a feed listing the people who write on a wiki, and the community decides who’s with it and who’s not, as the community has control over WhoWritesHere?. The information is part of the wiki-net-feed. It get’s fed to the wiki-net-server like once a day. You could say: draw me a map of the wikis that my fellow writers also write on. This map updates every day. Viola!

Tried it on Mattis-Manzel-wiki: who cares here? <== deleted

MattisManzel: Alex, Radomir fixed the wiki-net blogs here. See diffs. It’s rcmatch instead of match now. Shall I change it on all pages wiki-net blogs?

MattisManzel: I moved HomePage to FrontPage. Forehead, Front. The top of the face of a wiki which is its blog. StirnSeite? in German, PaginaFronte? in Ialian. Home-pages are personal pages or pages for other communities/wikis.

MattisManzel:
Hmmm. Does an rss-feed of the talk make sense? Do people like to talk, say “hello” distibuted globally by rss or do they want to say hello in a certain circle? Rather the last. But talk can be more than saying “hello”, indeed. I’m unsure if I should remove the feed for talk-pages. It’s possible - a good argument to leave it in the sidebar.

MattisManzel:
To gather as much intelligence as possible in the shortest time we radically have to go multilingual - that means start as many oddwiki-centers in different languages as can be.

An Norwegian and a Swedish oddwiki-center would both be called oddwiki-senter. We have to add the ISO code from now on for new oddwiki-centers. Would sv-oddwiki-senter and no-oddwiki-senter be better - SvOddWikiSenter?, NoOddWikiSenter? - or oddwiki-senter-sv and oddwiki-senter-no - OddWikiSenterSv? OddWikiSenterNo?? Kinda important, thx.

SamRose:
Mattis, kind of related to what you are talking about, is it true that the itereation of oddmuse that we are using here can detect the language preferences of a person browsing, and display content in their preferred langauge?

MattisManzel:
Yes.

SamRose:
I wishI could help you with the multilingual. I am sadly monolingual, but I am slowly working on that…

2006-06-19 Talk

MattisManzel:
I added two rss-feeds to the side-bar, the blogs’ feed and the talk-pages’ feed. I copied that from xtof’s-bliki. Wonder if they work. The blogs’ feed seems to be only determined by 30 (last 30 entries I suppose).

To get a feed of wiki-net I’d have to make wiki-net a day-page set, right? Publishing new versions of favorite neighbors’ rankings on _WikiNet day-pages, and only the latest one is valid, kinda. That would work, I guess.

http://www.communitywiki.org/odd/OddWikiCenter?action=rss;match=%5E%5Cd%5Cd%5Cd%5Cd-%5Cd%5Cd-%5Cd%5Cd;days=1 maybe?

Imagine: Once a day a wiki connects to the “all-wiki-index databank” It feeds the databank what wikis are currently on its wiki-net - that’s in its focus. It receives the information which other wikis curently have it on their wiki net - that’s in their focus. It displays these wikis on who is watching us?.

2006-06-20

I tried the feeds in Akregator, the _Talk and the recent changes feed work fine. The blog feed is wrong, it’s the feed of all day-pages instead. We will have to use _Blog instead of that journal 30 thing.

rss-feeds of the

and then there could be the feed of

Works. I can include the full text on s23-wiki: recent near changes.

Mark wrote on OddWikChat?: I use a mozilla product called Camino, it doesn’t have the peekko extension. MarkDilley (we might want to use Gabbly? or just plain IRC?)

MattisManzel:
I copied you in here, Mark from OddWikiChat - I just realize that I made a mistake. People think OddWikiChat page is for chat, heck. I didn’t mean that. It contains information about the chat and is a deep-linked page. That means it is transcluded into pages on other wikis. Deep-linked pages are distributed and the kind of pages one should think twice before changing them. I have to rename to AboutOddWikiChat? or explain it on the page. On the other hand: maybe a little chat on them is not too bad? We could later easily split it into two: the distributed deep-linked page OddwikiChatAbout? and the local talk-page OddWikiChatTalk? (sounds funny in that case, admit). Distributing the talk about OddWikiChat as well would be possible (the difference is there’d be a local Page OddWikiChatTalk? on every single wiki that you can read the whole talk tanscluded into it). But: everybody would have to write every link as a full url on the talk-page to make it clickable in the transclusion, and I think people won’t do that. - Not serious ;) Just-brain teasing you about the possibilities. We have enough talk-pages.

Peekko, to install the extention you need Firefox 1.5. I think peekko is the “missing link thing” between the gazillions of silent websurfers and the collab-editor/wiki ting level.

  1. make people install firefox
  2. make people install the peekko extention
  3. make them go to a communitywiki.org page
  4. make them click “join”
  5. talk to them and explain how to “ting”: collaboratively and in real time make remaining sense together.

wiki-page ==> chat-page ==> gobby-page ==> wiki-page

  • read about it on a wiki-page
  • join the chat for it on peekko, find out about ting
  • join a ting on gobby and make sense
  • the sense gets exported to a wiki-page soon after the ting

MarkDilley:
Well, I get stuck on step #1, I will not be using Firefox any time soon. Thanks for explaining DeepLinking, I like it and if the page gets changed, we wiki it back like you did! Best, Mark

2006-06-05 Talk

MattisManzel:
Question. I now transclude basic informations about a wiki on the oddwiki-hive from the list-wiki oddwiki-list (it has no day-pages and is only for listing and categorising) to a page on the respective language wiki-center, like here on the page for the hive-wiki.

To make links work in the transclusion on oddwiki-center I h a v e to use links with full urls on oddwiki-list. even internally. Like [http://www.communitywiki.org/odd/NameOfTheWiki/RecentChanges recent changes] I cannot use Main:WikiName/PageName nor CamelCase. Links work fine on oddwiki-list itself, but they do not work in the transcluded pages on oddwiki-center.

My Question: Is this a principal thing, like “only two levels deep and on the second level you have to use full urls for links” or is this something else? Something like with the near-map or so (which would be cool).

I fear it’s the first. Else there’d be the danger of creating endless loops, right?

But: Having two levels is quite nice already.

Estimation: More than three or maybe four deep-linking levels wouldn’t be neccessary to drastically augment the hive-minds intelligence. Maximun four for global supraconductive hive-mind-thinking, I estimate.

MattisManzel:
Putting cherries on a cake makes it a cherry cake. But it’s still a cake. A bliki is a wiki. Having bliki replace the term wiki causes eviteable confusion.

When I started I wanted to blikify the sand-wiki and Alex asked: why not call it sand-bliki and leave the sand-wiki as it is, which was very fine for me then. I now think it would be a mistake to go on distinguishing between bliki and wiki. It weakens the thing. The magic word is “wiki”, innit?

So a bliki is (just) a blikified wiki.

the Mattis-Manzel-blikified-wiki, kinda.

When moving the listed wikis and their categories over to the oddwiki-list I will (re)name what’s called bliki now to wiki. Mark-Dilley-wiki. C’mon, don’t be ashamed to have a blikified wiki! It’s the least you can do. ;)

Is that ok for you?

moving in Marks question from a while ago from the blog in here. I cant’t figure out anymore when he posed it to move it on the correct talk-page. The muse is beautiful but a bit amnesic.

Can you explain to me the thoughts behind using lowercase and using a dash. I would naturally assume an uppercase, Oddwiki. Mark Dilley
Mattis Manzel: see clean linking

2006-06-03 Talk

MattisManzel: I wonder about the oddwiki-list and the wiki-centers in different languages. How to do that?

Having all wikis listed on the wiki-list is nice. All active ones.

Having a home-page for the wikis that want to on the respective language wiki-center is nice to contact a wiki, leave messages, announcements, talk …

So two home-pages for active oddwikis.

  • One on oddwiki-list
    • basic information about the wiki that likely doesn’t change often is kept here
  • One on the wiki-center for the wiki’s working language
    • basic information about the wiki is transcluded in here from the wiki-list, communication follows

That’s good as wiki-list is in English, whereas the communication happens in the working language on the respective wiki-center.

The WikiNetBlogs lists all blog entries that have been recently changed. It doesn’t list entries by their date of creation but it lists the blog entries that have recently been edited and I think that’s cool.

Imagine dozens of wikis are subscribed to your wiki’s blog-pages. By editing a typo you could make hundreds of readers see an old blog entry again. People, knowing that the blog-pages are the face of the wiki, will put special care on the blog entries and will edit them a lot. It might become pretty lively on the wiki-blogs actually.

2006-06-02 Talk

MattisManzel: bicycle-kitchen: using flickr is cool. It’s an essential page we should have on using flickr, I think. It should be part of a set of essential pages that should be transcluded from the center-wiki to all the wikis on the odd-wiki-hive (who want it). So we could improve it in one place instead of hundreds.

Which are such [TranscludedPagesForAllWikis? transcluded pages for all wikis] hosted and maintained here. Proposals?

2006-05-31 Talk

MattisManzel: We have oddwiki-centers in four languages now. It doesn’t make sense to have a list of wikis on all of them. We could either leave it here or make a wiki just for that purpose named oddwiki-list. On the other hand it would be nice to have all French wiki listed on liste des wikis on oddwiki-centre, Italian wikis on lista dei wikis on oddwiki-centro and so on. Maybe one could somehow cleverly transclude from list of wikis on oddwiki-list to the local list pages on the different language oddwiki-centers.

oddwiki-list, yes or no?

MarkDilley: yes, but lest think of it as an oddwiki-planet - like PlanetPlanet?.

ChristopheDucamp : yes. Will come back soon to update [ListeDesWikis? liste des wikis]. Hé Mark I love PlanetPlanet?. Let’s say also I’d love to discuss about your thoughts about a future PlanetPlanet?’s positioning vs MySpace.

2006-05-29 Talk

MattisManzel:
Hmm. What emerges if you connect nodes on a sheet of paper? A net, right?. Thus wiki-node => wiki-net. I’m thinking about renaming the near-changes to wiki-net changes. It’s so far more pop! Trying on lady-wiki: wiki-net changes.

googleing wiki-net

funny, kinda noone seems to use the term wiki-net really.

First people invented the knot, then the net. First the wiki-node, then the wiki-net. Same as is ever was.

The wiki-net is the sum of all wikis noded on wiki-nodes. The wiki-net strives to be close to wikilandia, the sum of all wikis.

Our wiki-net is the tiny little part of it we know and interact with.

I see a problem coming up: The talk / wider calendar on talk-pages links to sand-diki’s talk / wider calendar. Why the heck is that? I fear the whole InterMap, NearMap, LocalNames stuff is incompatible with clean-linking, (at least on the large scale that I am interested in), arrg! (2006-05-30: Don’t panic, all problems solved, a little bug Alex fixed and me having forgotten to create talk / wider calendar locally.)

2006-05-25 Talk

MattisManzel:
Mark hi. I removed the “recents” entirely. RecentContributors? turned [[contributors?]]. Just hadn’t renamed yet here. Recents cluster the side- and go-to-bar. They are “true”, displayed are recent changes and not (all) changes, but the recent is redundant, I think. It works without, better without. They are a leftover from CamelCase times when ChanGes would have hurt the eye. Displaying all or only recent contributors (best automatically, it takes you off the list when not having written for two month maybe) is still unclear. RecentChanges maybe is too much of a habit to be still changed? But lets evite them where we can.

Another idea would be [WhoWritesHere? who writes here?] - WhoWritesHere?. I quite like it.

We can still change things now, still having few pages. This is important.

Table on [WhoWritesHere? who writes here?] looks nice but adding yourself is far more difficult, took me two wiki-years before I got into table syntax (and still I don’t know how to do it propperly). The old version is more practicable for people new to wiki, I think. Or an input field to add yourself and it builts the table automatically ;)

wait a minute: [[sand-bliki?]], local-names I mean. … .o0! Lion, I love you! I knew I didn’t understand local-names! That means I can write clean linking in page titels. Man!

MattisManzel:
We need to be clever and concentrate on the same common places when improving this thing. I need a css for lady-wiki. Which is the newest one to copy in? - It should be the one on empty-wiki, I think. At least empty-wiki should be the first one to be cared about when something new and good came up. Or empty-wikis in other languages and fast translation, sure.

2006-05-23 Talk

MattisManzel: What about making several prepared types of empty wikis - no contents, just the page-structure - that people would just have to copy into their new wiki to get going fast?

I’m thinking of

  • personal-wiki, talk-pages, agenda-pages
  • local group wiki talk-pages, event-pages

One empty wiki is fine for the beginning. Hm. oddwiki-hive: empty-wiki and its discussion page here: empty-wiki.

Hi Mark. Alex told in Main:DefaultHomePage (if I remember) or in Main:BarreHorizontale (in french) that RecentChanges should be positioned as the second LocalLink in the GotoBar. As I see here (in the WikiNow) : it’s nice because your first link is an external link. The second one is a local link. And your second local link is RC ;) That’s all. – ChristopheDucamp

MattisManzel: Partially done, my French is so miserable. xtof will do the rest.

The how to? should be here on the wiki-center, multilingual, so I copy in the list of css's.

2006-04-22 Talk

MattisManzel: Oh, oh, I had an idea. You know we all seem to think different on what a day-page based talk should be called like - a bad sign. Wiki-forum, forum, blog, others use blog for an agenda - it’s Tohuwabohu. Blog is a known commucation tool, and calling it blog isn’t right as on wiki it’s different. Forum is a known commucation tool, and calling it forum isn’t right as on wiki it’s different.

What is this? I asked myself, and I found that I had before already made a page called day-page. I did it to explain better, to make paople realize that - apart-from regular wiki-pages - there are day-pages on a bliki. K, they are called datepages on other sites. That sounds like dating to me - hence I use day-page instead. I hope day-page works and is correct English. Anyhow. These are day-pages. the latest 30 day-pages. They are recent day-pages. I made the transfer on Mattis-Manzel-wiki: recent day-pages already. Doesn’t it look cool? The three recents in a row? Isn’t it wonderfully neutral not prescribing any behavior at all and doesn’t it explain excellently for anyone knowing wiki a bit that it is - just like the recent changes - a page with hardly any contents itself that is filled with contents by other pages?

I’ll change it here too: recent day-pages

2006-04-21 Talk

MattisManzel: There are some things we can do with this wiki

  • write good pages on how to make your own wiki/bliki. Give templates for recommended structuralisation in order to achieve healthy interaction within the hive and outwards to all wikilandia.
  • Interact with the top level like the toplevel-daypages. Include them on a news page here or as a part of the blog maybe? So that someone who has some idea to tell us isn’t forced to use the same day-page as the develloper communicating an important information to everybody. The oddmuse-wiki-center wants to take load from the top-level (just in case it should get more busy on oddwiki).

Main:ChristopheDucamp : Bonjour Mattis. As soon as I get some energy, I’d be happy to seed a first french page (or bliki) OddWikiCentre linked with our beautiful OddmuseZenGarden. Maybe we could imagine here a multilingual wiki ? Just thinking of a GotoBar which could be personalized depending on the user’s language preference.
