Install Perl

Perl should come installed on almost all systems these days, except for Microsoft Windows. On such systems, I recommend the installation of ActivePerl. Follow the link and look for “Free Download”, click it, click “Next”, and pick “MSI” in the Windows section.

After installation, open a command window (run cmd), and type perl --version and Enter on the command line.

If you get something like the following, your installation did not work. Try again! Just stick to the defaults that the installer presents.

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\asc>perl --version
'perl' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
