I really feel bad about a (very) few things in my life.
(1) When I noticed my older sister struggling with the “new” math, before she knew how to do basic arithmetic, I should have noticed the decay in the education system and started lobbying to improve it.
(1a) Sadly, I did not remember this warning sign when my wife and I were discussing our children’s education and I insisted on Public school as opposed to paying for a Private school, since it was (used to be) good enough for us.
(1b) Now, I find people using the phrase … absolute facts in a statement about how busy they are.
In a point of logic, “absolute” as opposed to “relative” metrics, are a ‘subjective’ (as opposed to ‘objective’) measure. I have not met anyone in the past several years that is not complaining about being “too busy”, “over-loaded”, “hectic”, etc…, or “burned-out”. And they all believe they really are too busy to bear.
Then I meet people that make me feel like I am goofing off, in spite of the time that my spouse complains I work too much.
When I try to look at this from all of the different perspectives, I find myself drawing some conclusions …
Now I do believe that they believe they are “relatively” too busy. But I don’t have any way of know what they are comparing themselves to and hence how “relatively” busy they are.
Personally, I record my time to the nearest 1/2 hour, 24x7 and as a result, I am always amazed at how much time I can find to do something that is important to me. This approach also helps me assess the other people that I interact with since its easy to ask a few questions like, “What are you doing” and then have a comparison to other activities for which I know a relative value.
If you do this, you will quickly learn what your time is worth and how to allocate it the way you want. Then, you will never again be able to say …
| “I’m too busy.” |
After all, you are the only person responsible for deciding what to do with the time you have.
. Back to the opening statement …
I feel bad I have not done more to help improve the education system, a long time ago when its problems first came to my attention.
This MicroBlock fits into several contexts …
