Lovely scene, Hans, and a good choice of verse … but ideally the ‘quote’ should be either in the description or the first comment … I almost didn’t find this …. (please remember we have so many to look at we can’t go searching all over the place for quotes.) We must also have an author for Literary Reference in Pictures - could I ask you to add that information asap please.
I generally try to get the information as close to the image as possible, but in this case, prior comments had already been added before I thought of sending this to the LRP group (and I know of no way to change the order of Comments, without incorporating “unacceptable” program snippets into the FlickR page or the JPG itself (something I would not be cimfortable doing because of the security concerns.)
Using the Description area (as in the current case) is a bit problematic for the Author of the text, if it includes a link, given the way FlickR has implemented the ‘hot zone’ editing feature at this time. I’ll try to find an effective compromise, as time allows during the next couple of months. After all, in an ideal case, this may make it easier to meet the conflicting needs to various Groups, allowing broader sharing of images.
I’ve been discussing some of the related issues with various technical groups and the consensus seems to be “specialized” needs need to be satisfied by 3rd party services (e.g. BigHugeLabs?, etc) and that FickR? & Yahoo encourage external blogs, where it is much easier to meet ‘over-lapping’ needs. I am also investigating the use of the new generation of technical capabilities such as “GreaseMonkey” which allow each viewer to customize the way a page is presented by their own browser.
Conceptually, this approach would make it possible to create a “client-side” script that would be able to filter the page contents based on a Viewer’s or a Group’s preferences and show only that subset which is of interest. While this has a lot of Technical merit, it raises a whole new bunch of Social and Economic issues.
For the moment, I think I’ll focus on enjoying the pictures and the friendly relationships that evolve in Groups like this one. And I’ll appreciate the work done by the many Group Admins such as yourself, that make this possible.
Thanks, Hans …. I thought that might have been the case with the comments and I agree that there could potentially be problems of adding it in the description. Anyway, I appreciate your efforts to resolve this.
LRP “attribution” information - Recordings of Blue Hawii have been produced by many recording artists, especially after … “Blue Hawaii is a 1961 musical film set in the state of Hawaii and starring Elvis Presley.” – from WikiPedia
Lynn - The way I’ve restructured the Commnents on this page is at least a start at finding an effective way of meeting the conflicting needs of variois Groups. Specifically … - I’ve removed the hyperlink from within the description, into a Note. While this adds a bit of difficulty for the Author, especially in a small note, it seems a worthy trade-off. - The hyperlink (for a specific group) can then jump directly to the comment that is of particular interest to its members. - Ideally, any such hyperlinks will, of course, appear in the first Comment; but as demonstrated by this case, that is not always possible. - Given that I now know how to create nd use “local Anchors” within a flickr page, I’m going to strive for an effective layout for an initial comment that can be used to direct a Group’s attention to a particular “header” comment for them. This could, of course, be extended to create internal threads within a photos page, upon which Comments could be seen as the ‘pearls’ of a necklace.
When I have some more time next month, I’ll consider some alternative designs that meet these Objectives by making use of an external Blog
I wish I could say I understood that …..
You’re right… “Its as clear as mud”.
Thanks for reminding me that I was “writing notes for programmers”. I’ll leave it here for now as a reminder to “clarify it” and I’ll try to show you what I mean the next time I get a chance to send an image to LRP.
Then I’ll remove the notes as quickly as possible to avoid distracting people from the fun of looking at pictures.
