My current work here seems to be in explaining “NetworkActivism?” to people. In a phrase, that is: “How activism works online.”.

Because it works really differently. And because it’s so empowering. There’s so much more you can do, as an individual, online, connected with people from around the world, and with all the intelligence resources available to you. We’re entering a “service based” activist networking community. It’s radically different than offline organizing, and it can be a lot more fun to do, too.

The Wikipedia is just one example of the kinds of things that activists can do online. But there’s so much more. And what’s more than that, the field of things that can be done over the network is growing, every day. It’s not just a communication channel, like a pipe- put messages in one side, pop them out on the other. Rather, it’s “magical.” It can do “magical things” with messages. It can reveal all kinds of information about the people you are working with, it can reveal all kinds of intelligence about the field you are working in, it can show you who’s interested, it can help you pool funds collectively, – there is an ever growing field of things that it will help you do.

The philosophical “code name” for the kind of advocacy that is perhaps “at base” of this thing is "civil society." Others know it as "Anarchism." If one of those terms strikes you as odd, and the other does not, (and in this society, I wouldn’t know which it would be!,) then I encourage you to read those, and note the similarities. If you can point out important differences between them, I’d love to hear it, and gain some clarity on that.

At any rate, that’s a little about me.

Teaching “OnlineInteraction” seems to be step 1.

What I originally came to EvolutionarySalon2 to talk about, was roadmapping and constructing VisualLanguage guides to help explain concepts. But, it looks like I got drafted into something else, instead. :)
