RecentVisitors

Feel like saying hi to let us know you stopped by? It’s encouraging for us to have visitors and encouraging for you to practice editing this page.

Please follow the “edit this page” link at the bottom, and add your name to this page. We like real names a lot (see UseRealNames). If you squish your name into one word, then you can follow the question mark to create your new NamePage. How cool is that?

Discussion

PatrickAnderson: The mechanically generated page at cw is interesting, but would be more valuable if we could filter out search-bots:

http://www.communitywiki.org/cw?action=visitors

It feels to me like viewing a security camera film. Owners have good reason to monitor their property for whatever they consider inappropriate actions, but I think visitors should be informed that they are being recorded, and have “at cost” access to those records.

I wondered if such a feature was available here at OddWiki, so tried

http://www.communitywiki.org/odd/CollectiveProblemSolving?action=visitors

but that doesn’t work.

neither does:

http://www.communitywiki.org/odd?action=visitors

Maybe Alex turned this off for all the OddWiki sub-wikis because of increased storage or processing costs?

SamRose: I believe it is a module or extension, that is not added to OddWiki farm at http://www.communitywiki.org/odd

SamRose: Welcome HansWobbe, DavidCary! You input is welcome, of course.

MattisManzel, 2007-09-07:
Hi. There are no pages “recent visitors” in the oddwiki-hive. The oddwiki-hive neither has the background colors for languages - [en] [fr] … - nor tags implemented. In the eArt-, kabo- and obm-wiki-hives “recent visitors”, the colored backgrounds and the tags work. A page called RecentVisitors is traditionally a low barrier page to say: Hi. “I’ve been here.” This is an important function, I think, and should be kept (like on this wiki). I call the function “recent readers” therefore, linking it from the recent changes (which I call changes or hive-changes in case it’s a main-wiki for a wiki-hive [1]). There is a scent of surveillance, true, but every geocities page or similar has such a function in far greater detail since many years already.
