wiki-node. Well. Looking around, well. The real problem is I’m not sure what they are myself. I first dropped on them early on community-wiki and liked the idea. I was wandering around in wikilandia, it wasn’t that many wikis by then. At least I saw many many being created since then. For me the wiki-node was a place where I could point wikis to other wikis. That still seems very important.
If you could see on what other wikis the people in a certain wiki-community work on - that would be good.
What are wiki? People and a piece of dead software. People and air. People in a common space that can carry information signals. People having written language and using it. Wiki, hmm. What it’s to me is a communicative setting. You feel that what you write is recepted in a useful way. Two basic differences to real life: A) There is no noise. It’s not that you have to wait til the blockhead accidentially standing around with the folks you’d like to talk to is finished before you can speak. Or they, the ones you’re interested in. Very important time factor. You don’t even have to wait til the interesting people have finished before you can speak. B) There is not a chance for any kind of intransparancy. Whatever you utter goes down to your permanent record. How you have been is just as openly accessible to everybody - not only these standing around listening - as how you are. Wiki is the biggest stage ever. Total limelight. Speaking in such a communicative setting is extraordinary, it’s most unknown to most people. Wiki itself is “ting” is speaking in front of the “big council”. Wiki are like air with a memory. (note that from now on I will speak about wiki as one thing. Like people. The is no one people. (Leute, kein “eine Leut”, bin nicht sicher auf Englisch: “people” ist auch Volk)
This is exiting. Such never existed and we always whished it would exist. Wiki is the cure against human stupidty. World war X couldn’t have happened with it. Honestly. Questions? I love blogs, yes, great, sure, and the other flies eat it too. Sry. The degree of reconfigurability is the thing. Wiki (wikilandia) is entirely reconfigurable.
Or better, wikilandia could be.
The blogoshere remains a bunch of egos. Their reconfigurability fails on their egos. It’s a question of how big your headline is and how’s the software behind it. On wiki everybody’s headline is equally big. Yo!
The difference between blogs and wikis is “Person X and the XXXs” and a real band.
No.
It’s about administratorship. Turn it down as far, far, far as possible. Alex is totally, totally, totally right with his way. Registration is a complete, complete, complete pain in the ass and unessesacary (unnötig, I never know how to spell that).
In few words: wiki you!
Anyway, good ting as usual.
