A DeliberativeGroupDecisionMakingProcedure is a GroupDecisionMakingProcedure? which is designed to permit/encourage “rational discussion” about the proposals. Also note that decisions are made in a purposeful, intentional fashion (but is this part of being “deliberative”?).
Examples:
Deliberative
Not deliberative
- The StockMarket?: neither deliberative (the procedure does not involve discussion) nor purposeful/intentional (you can buy a stock without knowing/feeling that you are participating in a decision made by a group)
- A referendum: The procedure constituing a referendum does not permit/encourage individuals to discuss the proposal with others who have opposing points of view. There is a danger that people will vote based on their “gut reaction” without considering the other side’s point of view and without knowing the basic facts related to the issue.
