Various forms of wiki culture have evolved. See DegreesOfEditorialControl for a different aspect of this variety. On this page we'll talk about focus – one topic, multiple topics, any topic but a particular group for people (clique), etc.
- A SocialWiki converges around a clique, and can be nebulous in subject matter.
- A FocusWiki, on the other hand, has a clear goal. It doesn't really require a clique to work a focus wiki. It's pretty easy to judge a contribution: Does it take us to the goal, or not? Many many many people can contribute to a focus wiki, and carry it forward.
See SplitWiki and HubAndSpokeWikis for organizing a number of wikis.
