A software tool to make it easier for groups to legally incorporate (see LightweightGroupIncorporation?) and administer themselves.
High level goals for the tool:
- help incorporate the organization
- help choose bylaws for the organization
- help get insurance for the organization
- help integrate new participants into the organization
- keep track of the roles of various individuals in the group
- help assign roles to individuals
- help keep individuals' execution of their roles accountable to the group
- see the state of the "group mind", that is, the state of decision-making processes within the group
- facilitate group decision-making
- administer assets owned by the group
- allow transient contribution from some participants (see also MicroContribution)
- help create and execute agreements on how to distribute profits back to group members
- manage contractual relations between the group and third parties
The software will be developed in two stages.
Stage 1
- menu-driven interface for creating custom bylaws
- place to express group goals and deliverables
- dashboard/control centrer/status displays to show the state of the group
- who holds which roles
- the status of assets owned by the group
- state of decision-making processes
- the usual communications functions (asynchronous and sychronous; message-based and also collaborative document editing)
Stage 2
- "Back end systems that administer funds, pay taxes, apply appropriate permissions to group decision-making, and distribute net proceeds in accordance with founding agreements"
- manage contractual relations between the group and third parties
- "External discovery system to help individuals find and join the right groups"
- "Expansion of organizational types."
A project of DoTank. The GroupAvatar project looks like it may be a predecessor to this one.
