When a contributor aggravates you on a wiki or any other medium where authors contribute to a piece of work that can only be read or consumed as a whole, you cannot filter out the contributions of fools. They will keep aggravating you. One way to deal with this is to institute a
NeutralPointOfView; the assumption is that
CommunityExpectation will reduce overall aggravation.
Another method to deal with this is splitting of pages:
- Split the page in a neutral page and a talk page. This assumes that the community can work together using a neutral point of view. Depending on the issues and the community culture, this may be difficult. Stronger community expectations help.
- Split the page in a pro and a contra page. This will make reconciliation more difficult, as the adherents of the various view-points will drift towards the pages they "enjoy" most -- people love agreement with their own point of view; they do not SeekCriticism. See also DoubleWiki, Wiki:SplitByTopicNotByOpinion.
- Don't split the page; rather let them have it, but collect selected quotes and your replies on a "personal" page (eg. your homepage on a wiki).
