My daughter & girlfriend (AmberStraub) took me to see Happy Feet today.
If you haven’t seen it, because you thought that it might be “just another funny animals” story, just ignore that.
I think most people here would be (very) interested in it.
It fits in perfectly with a HowardBloom? description of reality, and the EvolutionarySpirituality understanding of God & our world. It gets pretty close to breaking the 4th wall (to amazing effect) in several places, and talks about how group deliberations and the media function. It talks about the positive and negative interactions we have with conservatives and liberals.
There is a lot to talk about here. And I feel fairly confident that people are going to use this movie as language. They’re going to say, “Well, I think it’s link in Happy Feet, where..,” in order to explain themselves.
This is, really, an “early 21st century movie.” That is, when scholars of the future look back into the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, (birth of the Internet in mass culture era,) they’re going to be looking at and talking about the Matrix, and they’re going to be looking at and talking about Happy Feet. I have a hard time seeing how this movie could have, (and perhaps even should have) been written in, say, the 1980s, the 1970s, the 1960’s, the 1950’s, … Just can’t be done. This movie is squarely in the present, and very much a RelevantStory.
Most people who are talking about this movie are going to be reciting lines or jokes that they heard. You might think that it’s a shallow movie, based on the mass appeal, and the jokes you’re hearing, and product tie-ins, and other things. (That’s what I thought.) Well, if you think that I have any ability to discern shallow movies from movies with depth: This is not a shallow movie.
So, if you haven’t seen it – Please, go see it.
Hi, great animation and a clear message for cultural diversity (represented by the little penguin Mumble, who “stepped” out of the prevailing patterns). By googling around, I found (probably) the main page for it (with interactive flash stuff): http://www.happyfeetmovie.com. Besides that I found some additional clips with background information on http://www.youtube.com. – FridemarPache 2006-12-30 23:03 UTC
